DIY: Flower Crown On A Dime

The flower crown trend has been a huge hit this Spring and Summer.

After looking around on the internet, I noticed that most of the crowns were pretty expensive (at least for my budget).

I figured instead of spending $20 or more on a crown, that I would most likely only wear to the beach or a concert, I should just try and make my own.

I'm probably not the only one who would like a fun, little flower crown to wear, but doesn't want to spend a lot of money on.

Here's a DIY tutorial for the crown.

Items you'll need:

1. Flowers
2. Scissors
3. Hot glue gun (you can also use safety pins, studs or any glue you have laying around).

STEP #1- Theme and Purchasing

Pick a theme you want to go with.  I wanted something bright and summary, so I went with a lot of sunflowers and yellow colors.

Feel free to buy as many flowers as you want (you can use leftovers for other things). For my crown, I bought a total of 3 bunches of flowers at a dollar per bunch. So my total was only $3.

Notes:

1.The cheapest place to buy the flowers is Dollar Tree/Store.

STEP #2 - Remove the Stem

Take all of your flowers and remove them from the stem. This should be very easy. The flowers are usually not glued to the stem; you can just pull the flower off the stem. (If you'd like, you can also remove the leaves from the stem and later on add them to your crown.)

The flowers in this photo have already been removed and organized into groups.

STEP #3- Trim

Flip the flowers over and use your scissors to trim the little green stem that is still attached to the flower.

The stem on the left is not trimmed, while the stem on the right is trimmed.

Do not remove the little, green petal cap.

Notes:

1. Do not cut off the whole green stem. If you do this, your flower will fall apart, because the little green stem is what holds all the petals together.

2. Leaving a little bit of the green stem will allow the crown to hang on to your hair. (You will not need a hairband, elastic or bobby pins to keep it in place).

3. If you make your crown too big, the green stems that you trimmed will get stuck in your hair and keep the crown in place. (If you do not constantly put the crown on and take it off, your hair will not get tangled or damaged).

In this photo I used pins to pin the petals together so you can see where I glued the flowers.

 STEP #4- Start Gluing

Start gluing the flowers together.

1. When you glue the flowers together, glue the petals to each other. For the two flowers: take some petals of flower A and glue them on top of some of the petals of flower B; and take a few more petals of flower A and glue them underneath the petals of flower B. This will give the crown a more interlaced look.

2. Once you glue a few flowers together, wait for the glue to cool, then wrap what you made around your head. If the ends do not meet, glue on a few more flowers. This way you can use your crown as a tape-measurer. (If you have a tape-measurer then take it and wrap it around your head. Write down what you got. Start gluing the flowers together until they reach that length).

3. After you get the length you want, glue the two ends together.

4. If your crown does not look as full as you want it to look and you have left over flowers, feel free to glue the extra flowers between the ones on your crown. (Shown below.)

Now for some photos...I couldn't resist!
